What "Top Events" Actually Counts
A precise explanation of what shows up in the Top Events chart on the Analytics dashboard, and what's deliberately excluded from it.
The Top Events chart on the Analytics dashboard shows your most frequent event types, ranked by count, capped at the top ten. That's the mechanic — but one detail changes how you should read it.
Pageviews are excluded on purpose
Pageview events are specifically filtered out of this chart before the ranking happens. That's deliberate, not an oversight: pageviews are already the largest number on the dashboard (they drive Total Visits directly), and including them in Top Events would mean the chart is dominated by a number you're already seeing elsewhere, crowding out everything more specific.
What that leaves you with
With pageviews excluded, Top Events is really a ranking of everything else you're tracking — whatever custom events your team has sent, plus any other non-pageview event types the platform records. If you're not sending any custom events, this chart may look sparse or empty, and that's expected: there's nothing else being tracked to rank.
Reading it correctly
Because the list is capped at ten and sorted purely by count, an event type that happens rarely but matters a lot to you (a specific conversion action, say) can be pushed off the list entirely by a higher-volume event that matters less. Top Events tells you what happens most often, not what matters most — those aren't guaranteed to be the same thing, and the chart doesn't attempt to distinguish between them.
