Installing the Chat Widget on Your Site in Five Steps

A walk-through of the in-product install flow, from configuring the widget's look to confirming it's live on your site.

Getting the chat widget onto your site is a short, guided flow inside the product itself — the install page walks through it as a numbered sequence. This guide mirrors that sequence directly, so it should match what you see on screen step for step.

Step 1: Configure your widget

Before touching any code, set up how the widget looks and behaves: colors, position on the page, and the greeting message a visitor sees when they open it. This lives on the /widget configuration screen. It's worth doing this first rather than installing a default widget and coming back to style it later — the configuration is what your install code actually renders, so getting it right up front means you install once.

Step 2: Review what you're embedding

The install flow shows you exactly what will be added to your site before you add it — this isn't a black-box script tag. Knowing what's actually being embedded matters especially for a widget that will run on every page of a public-facing site; you're not taking it on faith.

Step 3: Add the code to your site

Place the install snippet on your site, typically just before the closing </body> tag so it doesn't block the rest of the page from loading. Where exactly this goes depends on your site platform — a page template, a global layout file, or a tag manager, depending on how your site is built.

Step 4: Confirm the widget appears

Load your site and check that the widget shows up where and how you configured it in Step 1. This is the point to catch a styling mismatch or a positioning issue before real visitors see it — better to fix it here than after a customer has already tried to start a conversation.

Step 5: Send a test conversation

Start a conversation as a visitor would, and confirm it lands correctly in your Chat inbox — assigned, routed, and visible to whoever's supposed to see it. This closes the loop: it's not enough that the widget renders, the conversation actually needs to reach your team.

After install

Once the widget is live, the configuration you set in Step 1 isn't locked in — you can go back and adjust colors, position, or the greeting at any time from the same /widget screen, and changes take effect without touching the install code on your site again. The install snippet stays the same; only what it renders changes.
