An Airbnb-Inspired Redesign for the Tasks Board and Task Dialog

Tasks' kanban cards, table rows, and task dialog get a visual pass — real assignee avatars, grouped sections, and softer card styling.

tasksdesignui

Tasks has a new look across its three main surfaces: the kanban board, the table view, and the task dialog, all restyled using the platform's existing Nova design tokens with no changes to shared packages.

What changed

Kanban cards now have rounded corners, a hover lift-and-shadow effect, and an issue-type glyph next to the title. More concretely useful: assignees now show as a real avatar with a name, rather than a raw user ID string. That same avatar-and-name resolution carries over to the table view's Assignee column, with more consistent row padding throughout.

The task dialog got the bigger overhaul. Instead of one flat list of fields separated by horizontal rules, fields are now grouped into scannable, icon-labeled sections: sub-items, a checklist with a progress bar, comments (now showing an avatar, name, and relative timestamp instead of a raw author ID), links, milestone, and dependencies. The dialog itself is wider, and each section has its own empty-state copy instead of a generic blank.

Behind the scenes

A new use-workspace-members hook and a set of member-avatar helpers back the assignee and comment-author resolution across the card, table, and dialog, so that lookup logic exists in one place instead of being duplicated three times.

Status

This change was verified with a clean typecheck, a successful Cloudflare build, and a green guardrails run, and is scoped entirely to the Tasks app — no shared UI package was touched. As of this writing it's built and verified but not yet deployed to production, so expect it to reach live workspaces shortly after this post.
