Handing Off Site Ownership and Inviting Collaborators

Two distinct, separately-tokened flows are now available on every site: transferring ownership to someone else, and inviting collaborators without giving up ownership.

Two related but distinct flows are now available for anyone who builds a site for someone else, or brings someone else onto a site they own: ownership transfer, and collaborator invites.

Transferring ownership

If you built a site as a freelancer or agency and it's time to hand it to the client, an owner can start a transfer from site settings by entering the new owner's email. This generates a one-time token and, unless you choose otherwise, keeps your own access as an editor after the handoff completes — so you're not locked out of a site you may still support. Starting a new transfer automatically cancels any transfer already pending for that site, so there's only ever one live handoff in progress at a time, not several competing invitations.

Inviting collaborators

Separately, an owner can invite other people onto a site without giving up ownership — the flow most teams will use day to day. Each invite is its own token, tied to that specific site, and can be revoked at any time from the same settings screen before or after it's accepted.

Why they're separate

A transfer changes who's in charge of the site; an invite adds someone without changing that. Keeping them as two distinct, separately-tokened flows means revoking one never has any effect on the other — cancelling a pending ownership transfer doesn't touch your team's existing access, and removing a collaborator doesn't touch a transfer in progress.

Both are available today from Site Settings → Sharing.
