Fumadocs on Next.js 16: Why Knowledge Is Ahead of the Platform's Usual Baseline

The Knowledge app now runs on Next.js 16.3.1, ahead of most of the platform's apps, which still sit on 15.x.

knowledgenextjsengineering

A short, factual note for anyone tracking what's actually under the hood: the Knowledge app is now running on Next.js 16.3.1. Most of the other apps across the platform are still on the 15.x line, so Knowledge is currently ahead of the usual baseline here, not behind it.

Why we're mentioning a version number

We don't normally write about framework versions — most readers rightly don't care what Next.js release number powers the page they're reading. But Knowledge's docs rendering is built on fumadocs-core and fumadocs-ui, and staying current with the framework those libraries build on is what lets us pick up their newer capabilities as they ship, rather than working around an older baseline. For anyone technically evaluating the platform, or specifically the Knowledge app, that's a concrete, checkable fact worth having on the record.

What we're not claiming

Being on a newer Next.js release doesn't, by itself, mean Knowledge does more than other apps today, or that every other app is due for the same upgrade on any particular timeline. Version currency and feature richness are different things, and this note is only about the former. Each app in the platform upgrades on its own schedule, based on what that app actually needs — we're not treating a version bump as a feature to market on its own.

The practical upshot

If you're comparing technical currency across a platform with 17 different Next.js apps — which is a reasonable thing to check before building on top of any of them — Knowledge is the one currently running the newest framework release, for reasons specific to its own docs-rendering stack.
